The Rhone Glacier is a valley glacier in the Central Alps of Switzerland. The photos show the glacier tongue covered by a protective tarpaulin. The glacier used to be a great tourist attraction because of its tongue, which at that time still reached far down into the valley near Gletsch, but since the middle of the 19th century it has been melting continuously and will probably have disappeared completely by the year 2100.
